Well the inevitable happened, they fell apart at the end of the season. Instead of making a strong push for the playoffs, they folded under pressure. Actually, they didn't even show up for their final two games.
Offense
During this last quarter, the offense managed to put up big points against Philadelphia (loss) and Washington (win), but never got on track against Carolina and Minnesota.
Defense
Other than the Washington game where they held them to 12 points, the defense could not stop anybody. Lack of leadership and desire to win really showed it's ugly head and it was obvious to all who watched that this team was not your typical Giants defense.
Special Teams
Same old same old. Nothing great, but not that bad. Personally I think Tynes (kicker) and Feagles (punter) are done as Giants and would welcome some new blood in those positions.
Overall, I would give this quarter an F as they only won 1 game and were embarrassed in the last 2. I would also give the overall season an F as they were expected to do well again this year and they ended up missing the playoffs for the first time in 6 years.
On another note, Eli Manning had a Personal Best year with 4027 passing yards, 27 TDs, a completion rate of 62.3% and a Passer rating of 93.1, while Steve Smith set a new Giants record for most catches in a season with 107. Congrats to those guys and look forward to seeing what the offense can do next year.

NY Giants Third Quarter Report Card
Well the season may have been saved with their win against their division rival Dallas Cowboys on the weekend. That gave them their 2nd win for this quarter of the season, putting them at 7-5 and just outside the playoff hunt. Their other win came against Atlanta, which I was at.
Offense
Other than the Denver game, the offense has managed to put points on the board. Their running game hasn't been great, but Eli has managed to throw fairly well.
Defense
After being non-existent for 3 games, the D finally showed up against Dallas. I know Romo threw for nearly 400 yards, but Dallas could not run and that was the deciding factor in the game.
Special Teams and Kicking
The kickers have not been good (neither Feagles or Tynes), but they shouldn't be relied on to be the deciding factor in games. The punt return team finally scored a TD (against Dallas) for the first time in over 3 years, so that was definitely a positive.
At this point, they need to win this week against Philadelphia to give them the tie-breaker advantage (if it comes down to that). They also need to win 2 more other games to really help their chances of making the playoffs.
Overall, I would give this quarter a C- grade. It's not great as that lose against Denver could come back to hurt their playoff chances.

New York, New York Part II
Well we all survived the weekend! No muggings, attacks, 3-card monty scams, celebrity sightings, or bad weather. All in all it was a great weekend. What made it even better is that the Giants won, breaking their 4-game losing streak. I don't have any pictures at the moment (on my home compy), so I can't post anything.
The friends who came with us were totally amazed, as they had never been there. I would highly recommend visiting it if you ever get the chance. I know I'll be back.
Now back to work so that I can relax again.

Start spreading the news. I'm leaving today. I want to be part of it...
Heading to New York City this weekend for a pre 40th birthday celebration. Going to watch the Giants break their 4 game losing streak. Will post more after the weekend.

NY Giants Mid-Term Report Card
Well it looks like the wheels have fallen off. The past quarter of the season really exposed the teams weaknesses.
Offense
Eli has gone from MVP numbers to Jamarcus Russell (Oakland's QB) numbers. He has thrown more INTs in the past 4 weeks than touchdowns. The team has also gone away from running the ball, probably because they have found themselves down and needing to catch up early in the game. Their "red zone" numbers also haven't really improved and it has shown. Overall, they proved they can't hang with the high powered offense teams.
Defense
The past 3 games has seen the Giants give up an average of 40 points per game, and that is not acceptable for a team that has prided itself on being a smash mouth defensive team. The secondary has not been able to keep up with anybody, the linebackers can't seem to tackle and the defensive ends can't seem to find the quarterback. At this point, even if some of their injured players came back, I don't think it will help them fill all the gaps.
Special Teams and Kicking
When your place kicker is leading the team in points, that is a sign that you are not scoring enough points. The special team hasn't been great on either side. The defensive ST have given up huge returns on both punts and kickoffs, while the offensive ST haven't run any back.
After getting a great report card for the 1st quarter of the season, I have to give the Giants a big fat F for the 2nd quarter of the season. Combine the 2 and I would say that at the half way point of the season, I would give them a D.
At this point, if they don't manage to win 2 out of their next 3 games, they definitely won't make the playoffs. The good news is that after this upcoming weekend, they do have a bye to rest up and get ready for the end of the season push for the playoffs. In my opinion, because of their challenging schedule that still remains, I wouldn't be surprise if they finish the season somewhere around 8-8 and don't make the playoffs. Let's hope I'm wrong!

NY Giants First Quarter Report Card
Since I haven't posted much about the NY Giants this season, I thought I'd give my opinion on how they have done so far, one quarter into the season.
At the moment they currently sit on top of the toughest division in football, NFC East, at 4-0, 2 games ahead of their nearest competitor. This record has also put them at or near the top of some power rankings (CBS, ESPN to name a few). They have played hurt and with injuries, but to this point haven't been challenged, other than the Dallas game. Given their record, if they can win 1 more than 50% of their remaining games, they will make the playoffs at 11-5. The bad news is that their schedule gets much tougher after this week (Oakland at home) with games against New Orleans (4-0), Philadelphia (2-1), Arizona (1-2), San Diego (2-2) before reaching their bye week. They need to be somewhere around 7-2 to guarantee themselves a playoff spots. New Orleans high powered offense should be the deciding factor. If they can beat them then there shouldn't be a problem beating the other 3 teams. A loss there and things get interesting as Philadelphia always plays tough against NY.
Offense
Eli has played very well and the passing game is keeping teams on their guard. The running backs haven't had that breakout game, but it hasn't been needed. The amount that they do run has opened up the passing game. The offensive line has protected Eli nicely and are mostly healthy, so that should continue. The only negative side to the offense is the fact that they are having problems scoring in the "red" zone (inside the opponents 20 yard line) only converting touchdowns on 2 out of 11 attempts. This will need to change if they plan on making a run to the Superbowl.
Defense
To this point, the defense hasn't been stellar, but other than the Dallas game, haven't really been challenged. They have kept their opponents to minimal yards, which has made it easier for the offense. With only 7 sacks to this point, the absence of Coach Spagnolo is being felt and with a few injuries in the secondary, it will be crucial to see how they fare against New Orleans and Arizona who like to throw plenty. If they can pressure these teams and get a few more sacks, then the secondary should be fine. The coming weeks will be the real test for this defense.
Special Teams and kicking
I would have to say that kick defense is probably their weakest point as they seem to give more yards back than they should. Although no team has run back a touchdown on kickoffs, they are starting at better than their 20 yard line on average. Punts have been great, as Jeff Feagles is a master as pinning teams deep in their end zone . Field goals haven't been awesome as Lawrence Tynes has missed a few inside the 20 yard line. I will give him the benefit of the doubt as he is coming off an injury season.
Overall I would give the Giants an A-. They haven't been perfect and there are areas that need to improve, but they are 4-0 and are winning easily.
Check back in a few weeks to see my mid-season report card.

Giants win first game of season
With the NFL starting it's season over the past weekend, I was very interested to see how the New York Giants would start off. In years past they haven't always looked the best. This weekend, against division rival Washington, they looked solid. The defense controlled much of the game and even scored a touchdown, while the offense ran the ball OK and made some nice catches and plays after the catch. Chalk one up in the win column.
Next week, they travel to Dallas to take on another division rival as they open their over-priced, poor seating/viewing, giant HD LCD screen, new stadium. A win there and that should put them as the front runners to take the NFC East.

NFL starts TODAY!
It's the most wonderful time of the year! The NFL starts tonight with the defending Champions taking center stage in hopes of defending their title. No chance in hell of that, but none the less they are still the champs and will be until someone else wins the title.
For me, my beloved New York Giants have to wait until Sunday at 4:15pm EST to take on their division rivals the Washington Redskins. They should win, but week 1 is always interesting as teams, namely starters, haven't really come together as a team yet. Should be interesting. Hopefully they start the season off right as they make their way to winning the NFC East (11-5 record) and back to the Super Bowl.

Good start
Well for those who haven't noticed yet, the NFL pre-season started last week. I really didn't pay any attention to those games, as my beloved NY Giants only played their first game last night. That one I watched in its entirety, and thankfully I did as it was finally decided on the last play of the game, in which they won. I know it is only pre-season, but a win is a win and they looked OK doing it.
Overall, I was happy with the RB's, as Jacobs and Bradshaw showed some good form. I was also happy with the new 3rd back, Danny Ware, as he showed some potential. The defense (first and 2nd string guys) looked good and put some decent pressure on the QB. The 3rd string guys only had the game ending play to brag about, so nothing unexpected there. The offensive line also looked good protecting Manning and Carr, while opening some nice holes for the RBs. The 3rd string guys couldn't give Woodson and Bomar any time to step back and throw the ball, so don't really know which of the 2 is better.
Now on to the WRs. Many people (analyst) are all over the Giants for not having a top WR. I say BS! As long as the guys run their routes, CATCH the ball and can make some plays after the catch, then they will be fine. NY Giants football is all about the power run. I know you have to pass a little to open up the run, but opponents expect to get a healthy dose of Jacobs (and Bradshaw) each time they play the Giants. Last night, all the WRs played well. There were no obvious drop balls and they helped move the chains on several occasions. Give these guys a chance to get in sync with Manning and I see good things from them.
I know it is only pre-season, and 1 game to boot, but I will say it here first:
Giants take the NFC East (12-4) and make it (at least) to the NFC Championship game this year!
