Back for more

Wow, it sure has been a while since my last post. Many things have changed, while some have stayed the same.

Since my last post, all three of my kids have celebrated a birthday, as has my beautiful wife. I've also traveled to the Baltimore-Washington area, San Diego and the Galapagos Islands. The latter was an amazing experience. If you ever have the opportunity to go, GO! Due to my extensive traveling, my running was non-existent for 3 months, but in the past week I've started up again (and that hurt, but worth it). Another thing to note is that since my last post, I've managed to gain all the weight (and more) that I tried so hard to lose, so I'm working on removing it again (no one to blame but myself).

As for work, I've changed jobs, but am still working in the same area. I'm very happy about my change, as it was much needed, and I feel in this position, I'm able to contribute more to the company's goals.

Well, that is about it, but I will post soon as I have another Run Challenge to start.

I would like to take this moment to wish my beautiful wife a happy 7th anniversary. Thank you for being beside me for all these years and I look forward to spending many more with you.

I love you with all my heart.

Amazing

I just had the opportunity to meet Canadian Astronaut Chris Hadfield. I brought my family, including my mother and 2 of my daughters friends along, and we listened to him speak about the Canadian Space program and what it's like living in space. He had a slide show with incredible pictures that just added to his speaking. My son even had the opportunity to go up on stage with him as Chris did some weightlessness demonstrations.

That was an experience I will keep with me for some time. If you ever have the opportunity to meet an astronaut, do so, as they have amazing life experiences to share.

ARHM Challenge - Run # 9

Made it out today with my buddy JGiles for our LSD run. My family (including my wife) was also out on their bikes while we ran.

Here are my numbers:

My resultsComments
Type of RunLSD10:1good
Distance9 Km9 Kmtotal: 43.9 km
Pace6:48-7:487:23OK
Average HR149-167 139low
Max HR180159OK
Calories Burned
1103total: 5263

Because my buddy recently had heart surgery and he's just getting back into running, we tried to keep our pace slow and his HR under 110. For the most part, that was fine, but there were a few times where it did get up. Overall, it was a nice easy run.

Master Cleanse - Post Report - Wife's Version

She made it through the 10 days and only cheated a little yesterday.

Overall she lost 11 pounds and 7 inches between her chest, waist, hips and thighs. Today she plans on drinking a fruit juice and then making a butternut squash soup for her lunch/supper. That means, tomorrow she should be back onto solids.

Congrats on making it.

Master Cleanse - Day 10 - Wife's Version

Congrats to my Wife as she has made it to the last day of her Cleanse. I know the past few days have been tough on her as she has wanted to break it and eat something, anything.

All she has to do now is make it through today, then tomorrow she gets to enjoy some fruit juices and then pureed soup the next day before getting back into solids.

Well done. I knew you could do it (once you got past day 3).

Master Cleanse - Day 6 - Wife's Version

From what she's been telling me, all has been moslty fine. She's had some cold chill issues and also been a bit tired, which are both expected as you put your body through something like this. She's been drinking 6 glasses a day and says she hasn't really been hungry. Yesterday was her first irritable day and was showing signs that she might not make it through, but today is a new day and we'll see how she feels after her morning flush.

Over halfway there, so hopefully she keeps it going.

Master Cleanse - Day 3 - Wife's Version

She has made it through another day with minimal problems. She did say that she had several BM's in the afternoon (while at work) that she wasn't totally impressed with, but didn't feel hungry throughout the day yesterday.

This morning she mentioned that when she woke up, she had some hunger issues, but the Lax tea settled that quickly.

Master Cleanse - Day 2 - Wife's Version

The wife says that yesterday was fine. She managed to only drink 4 glasses of the Lemon mix, where 2 of them only have half the required cayenne pepper. I've corrected her on the cayenne issue and have mentioned that she should be drinking at minimum 6 glasses per day. She also drank the laxative tea last night, where she added a TBSP of syrup to help her with the taste. That caused her to be woken up in the middle of the night, to flush herself out, which she wasn't too happy about. Other than that, she's looking forward to today.

Master Cleanse - Wife's version

My wife is planning on starting a 10 day Master Cleanse, today! I wish her luck, and maybe she'll let me post some of her thoughts/feelings/reactions here over the next 10 days.

Reality check

All because of you,
I believe in angels.
Not the kind with wings,
No, not the kind with halos,
The kind that bring you home,
When home becomes a strange place.

Rise Against - The Good Left Undone

Heard this song lyric yesterday while running. I've heard this song many times before (one of my favourite bands), but yesterday, hearing this specific part, really stuck with me. Even today it is still with me.

Not sure exactly why, but this lyric really made me think of my wife. Probably because if I ever needed someone to bring me back "home," I know she would be there for me.

Appreciate what you have. Hopefully she knows I do.

Another Year

I celebrated (with my wife of course) my 6th wedding anniversary over the weekend. Hard to believe that we have been married for 6 years now, and ultimately together for 11 years. As a little surprise (she hates surprises) I decided to plan an evening out. I managed to convince her mother to watch our kids (and dog) for several hours while we set out on a 3 hour Sunset Dinner Cruise of the 1000 Islands. I say surprise as I only told my wife to be ready for a specific time and that we would be out for several hours. I finally told her were we were going once we got onto the highway.

Overall, It turned out to be very enjoyable evening. Dinner was a buffet, but still decent and the scenery was amazing. Because of limited seating on the boat/ship, we shared a table with several other people who were also celebrating anniversaries. The company was great and we spent a great part of dinner laughing and joking with each other. Topping off the night was seeing the sunset while cruising the river.

I would definitely recommend the boat cruise to anyone looking for something different. You can get all the details on the Rockport Boatlines website.
